How Do I Know Which Type Of Hair Extensions I Should Get?

The I Tip method is the most popular method because it is a re-usable method - clients can reuse the same hair many times. However, the Tape In hair extensions are a great option for those with fine hair that want to bulk it out on a semi-permanent basis.

Should I Get Synthetic Or Natural Hair Extensions?

It's always best to choose 100% human hair as other synthetic pieces are not a convincing alternative! It is also advisable to invest in the highest quality hair you can afford. At Glam by Lexx we only work with 100% Remy Hair and although it is not cheap, the hair will last for many refits so the cost in the longer term is a lot more affordable.

Synthetic hair is usually unnaturally shiny and also does not allow for heat styling. It is a lot lighter weight than human hair (which is surprisingly heavy!) and so will never move in quite the same way.

Also the methods used to fit synthetic hair do not allow for a multi-tonal colour match as they are produced in block colours. All clients need a mix of colours/shades to get a true colour match.

How much do hair extensions cost?

The cost of hair extensions varies so widely that it is difficult to know what is an appropriate price to pay.

Permanent hair extensions will cost more than temporary hair extensions as they do take time to fit. A full Head of hair extensions will take around 2 and half hours to apply, so you are paying for the labour costs. But most of the price you pay will be for the cost of the product itself - and this therefore means that it can be on the more expensive service.

It is worth going to a specialist stylist, as Glam by Lexx does specialize in installing both types of extensions. Investing in the best quality hair you can afford up front, knowing that you can re-use the hair.

Everything you need to know about Tape In Extensions

Hair type? Fine and looking for volume. In your consultation your hair stylist should give you a realistic and responsible idea of how many pieces can be fitted and where to place them for the most natural finish that won't damage your own hair.

Pros? The Tape In hair extensions look ridiculously natural and take far less time to fit than individual micro rings. A piece of your own hair is placed between two 'tape' pieces and sandwiched using a clamp - no heat, glue or rings required.

How long do they last? Tape Ins are considered semi-permanent. Typically, they last 2-3 months before you need to remove and re-apply them. Just like any other hair, however, it depends on how well you take care of them and on how quickly your hair grows. The most asked question I get is "Can I wear my hair up?" and yes you can, the tapes are still movable and are easy to hide in the hair.

Are they heavy? The individual pieces contain more hair than micro rings which makes them a little heavier, however, this means that you need less of them so the weight balances out about the same.

How much do they cost? This depends on how many pieces you have fitted. Prices start from $134.99 up to $154.99 for one package. Most girls need 3-4 packages which cost around $400-$550 plus tax.

Everything you need to know about I Tip Extensions

How Long Do Hair Extensions Last? Micro rings or the micro bonding methods last for 3-4 months before needing to be re-fitted (as they have grown 1.5 inches away from your scalp).

Are they bad for your hair? These are applied by attaching tiny wefts of hair to small sections of the natural hair with a small silicone-lined bead. Then, a special tool is used to secure the bead to the hair and tightened to hold it in place. Although this method does not use heat or glue, if not installed correctly by a professional, microlink hair extensions can be damaging on the hair. The bead may be tightened too much, causing pressure and pulling at the roots, and if not removed properly, the hair can be pulled out. This method takes approximately 2 hours to apply.

Treatment- You can wash them the same way you would your natural hair and use the same styling products. I Tip hair extensions need re-positioning every 3-4 months as the natural hair grows and the move away from the scalp.
